SWIM - BIKE - RUN
Triathlon includes a swim, bike and run in that order. You can think of it as in order of danger. The more tired you get, the less risk involved with the discipline. We have several triathlons to choose from, including a paddle tri option where you replace the swimming with paddling.
PADDLE - BIKE - RUN
In the paddle triathlon, you may use a stand up paddle board (SUP), kayak, or canoe for the water portion of the race. The Half and Olympic distance paddles are the same length as the swim. In the Sprint distance, the paddle is 1000 meters. The paddle maps are listed with the swim maps. The paddle portion is first. Paddlers start in/on their crafts in the water. They start ahead of the swimmers and lead the race! After completing the paddle course, SUPs and boats are brought onto the beach by the paddle athletes. Our volunteers bring the boats up to the transition area while the paddlers are on the bike course. After the bike and subsequent run, the BBQ and beverages will be waiting!
Safety and Rules for paddle craft (kayak/SUP/canoe etc) in Oregon:
1. Wearable lifejacket: USCG approved lifejackets must be worn during the race. Before and after the race, the lifejacket can be carried and readily accessible.
2. Sound device (whistle). Attach one to your lifejacket 👍
3. If your paddle craft is 10ft or longer, you must have an Oregon State Marine Board Waterway Access Permit.

BIKE - RUN
Our duathlons are 2 legs, bike then run. The courses are the same as the triathlon course for each distance, except you don’t have to swim!
The duathlon starts in the north east corner of the transition area in a time trial fashion at the "BIKE OUT" arch. A few minutes from the start, duathletes line up in transition in order of their bib numbers. After a few instructions from the race director or one of the posse, duathletes are sent off in 5 second increments. You'll start by running with your bike to the mount line. At the mount line, you will get on your bike and head out on course. A run awaits you after the bike, followed our famous BBQ after you finish.

The aqua bike course is the same as the triathlon course for each distance, except you don’t have to run! Aqua bike athletes start with their age groups along side the triathletes. During the aqua bike you will swim and bike in order, with the triathletes.
Your official time stops when you enter transition from the bike. There is a "run" split for the time it takes you to get the quarter mile from transition to the finish line, but that split does not count towards awards or final placement - just bragging rights. To get to the finish, you exit transition through the "RUN OUT" arch, head south on the sidewalk towards the water and enter the finish chute. You'll cross the line and get your photo, medal, and all the other swag and treats waiting for you. Bonus points if you cross with your helmet still on 😉!
